The Spanish travel magazine Viajar has included Almaty in the top five cities located at the foot of the mountains, from where you can quickly reach the ski slopes directly from the center.
In the prestigious list, Almaty is adjacent to the recognized centers of winter tourism:
- Innsbruck (Austria);
- Grenoble (France);
- Salzburg (Austria).
All these cities are famous for their well-developed infrastructure for active and winter recreation, and now the Kazakh metropolis has joined them.
The publication was the result of a visit by Viajar journalists to Almaty. The trip was organized with the support of the Almaty Tourism Bureau, which introduced the representatives of the publication to the key tourist sites, natural and cultural attractions of the city.

The article highlights:
- The ski resort of Shymkent, where lifts take guests to an altitude of more than 3,000 meters;
- The Medeu alpine complex with the world’s highest outdoor ice arena.
The authors emphasize that the cable car ride itself is already becoming an unforgettable experience. The rich cultural life of the city and the variety of gastronomic opportunities complement the picture – this is what makes Almaty especially attractive for travelers.
It is worth noting that Viajar is an authoritative Spanish publication with a rich history. Founded in 1978, the magazine retains its reputation as one of the leading travel media in Spain. Its audience is connoisseurs of cultural, active and educational tourism.
By the way, earlier the international Vogue magazine included Kazakhstan in the list of the 14 best tourist destinations of 2025. This is another confirmation of the growing popularity of the region among travelers around the world.
