Autumn in Armenia: A Season Impossible Not to Fall in Love With

In autumn, Armenia seems to breathe with gentle light. The air turns clear, the mountains glow golden, and the cities and villages come alive in their own special rhythm.

This is the time when the country fills with flavors, colors, and the sounds of festivals – every day here becomes a little journey.

The Country’s Golden Palette

An endless play of color sweeps across the land: vineyards and mountain forests shimmer from amber to crimson, while meadows and pastures stretch out like carpets under the warm sun. The flow of tourists slows down, the roads grow quieter, and the impressions – only richer.

It is in autumn that the country truly reveals itself: serene, welcoming, and full of the tastes and aromas of a generous harvest.

Flights Over the Golden Hills

When the autumn sky turns crystal clear, it’s the perfect time to see the country from above. In October, the skies over Yerevan and the valleys fill with dozens of hot-air balloons during the Discover Armenia from the Sky International Festival. Bright balloons soar above Republic Square in the capital and the picturesque mountains, creating a view you simply can’t look away from.

And for those seeking even more excitement – paragliding over Lake Sevan or the Azat Reservoir. The autumn reflections on the water and the gentle light of sunset make these landscapes truly magical.

In the Embrace of Nature

For travelers who prefer to stay on the ground, Dilijan National Park is the place to go – its forests rustle with gold, and the trails lead to the lakes Parz and Gosh, mirroring the sky like glass. The Lori region is all about walks through the Stepanavan Dendropark, where more than 500 species of trees turn into dozens of shades – from honey to crimson. And Jermuk, famous for its mineral springs and waterfalls, becomes a place of strength: here, you simply want to listen to the mountain streams and catch the breath of autumn.

Festivals, Wine, and Warm Gatherings

Autumn in Armenia flows to the rhythm of celebrations. On October 4, Areni Wine Festival took place – a colorful celebration of wine, music, and dance, where visitors could taste dozens of varieties, meet winemakers, and feel the charm of village life.

That same day, Yerevan was filled with energy as the streets of the ancient capital – founded in 782 BC – hosted the annual marathon, turning autumn into a festival of motion and inspiration.

Wine, Ghapama, and Cozy Evenings

Yerevan exudes a special cozy atmosphere: small wine bars and cafés invite you to try traditional dishes accompanied by a glass of Armenian wine. But the true magic begins beyond the capital – at the vineyards. Evenings here unfold to the sounds of live music, with a cheese platter and a glass of wine in hand, as the sun sets slowly over the vines.

During the harvest season, some wineries open their doors to visitors – you can take part in grape picking yourself and feel the true spirit of Armenian autumn, filled with warmth and aroma.

A special place in the national cuisine belongs to ghapama – a fragrant pumpkin baked with rice, dried fruits, honey, and butter. It’s prepared on holidays, when you want to share joy with your loved ones.
