Almaty has been included in Bloomberg’s list of the 25 best cities to travel to in 2026.
The city is experiencing a tourism boom. In the first nine months of 2025, Almaty welcomed 2.5 million visitors — a record high.
Tourists are drawn by the contrast between urban life and nature. In the city center, highlights include Zenkov Cathedral and the Green Bazaar, known for its local flavors. Beyond the urban area lie alpine lakes and the slopes of the Trans-Ili Alatau, all easily accessible within a day.
Cultural projects have also contributed to the city’s growing popularity. The Almaty Museum of Arts has opened, along with the renovated Tselinny Center for Contemporary Culture, which has become a new hub for exhibitions and events.
Bloomberg describes Almaty as a year-round destination. In winter, visitors are attracted by the Shymbulak ski resort, while spring and autumn are ideal for walking and exploring the city.
