Construction began in 1385 by order of Tamerlane, who wanted to create a true masterpiece of architecture and spirituality. But after his death in 1405, the work suddenly stopped. The main portal and part of the interiors remained unfinished!
And this makes the mausoleum special: here you can literally see how it was built in the Middle Ages. The unfinished elements seem to tell a story about the skill of the architects, the scale of the grandiose project and how political events could stop the construction of the greatest ideas.
That is, when you come here, you don’t just walk through a historical monument – you look into the past, see architectural secrets and feel the spirit of the era.
