The dream of Samarkand
Samarkand has always attracted me with its rich history and cultural heritage. This city is a real open–air museum, where every stone keeps its secrets.
The way to the City of Legends
Deciding to immerse myself in the atmosphere of a real trip, I went to Samarkand on my own, abandoning the organized tour. The five-hour bus ride gave me a special feeling of freedom and anticipation of adventure.

Exploring the treasures of the city
The first point of my route was the Ulugbek Observatory, a majestic monument of medieval architecture. Here, in the shadow of the ancient walls, there is a museum telling about the achievements of the great astronomer. I was particularly impressed by the preserved part of the famous observatory.
Ancient secrets of Afrosiaba
The next destination was the settlement of Afrosiab, the ruins of ancient Samarkand. Despite the fact that today there are only hills and a plain, the place breathes history. The cool wind and the special atmosphere take you back to the distant past.

famous places and architectural masterpieces
The Mausoleum of St. Daniel greeted me with silence and peace. Here I visited a sacred spring, which, according to legend, has healing powers.
Then the way lay through the heart of the city, where I visited:
- Islam Karimov Mausoleum is an example of traditional architecture
- The Bibi Khanum Mosque is a magnificent creation of the Timur era
- Shahi-Zinda Complex is an ensemble of 11 mausoleums with unique architecture
Evening Registan
Registan Square appeared before me in all its splendor in the evening lights. Despite the fact that part of the complex was under restoration, the atmosphere of the place was mesmerizing.

A modern look at the ancient city
The day ended with a visit to Samarkand City, a modern complex that harmoniously combines innovation with tradition. The Oriental bazaar, cultural performances and the picturesque river created a special mood.
Last day in Samarkand
The second day was dedicated to Gur-Emir— the tomb of Tamerlane. Three majestic mausoleums preserve the memory of the great ruler. According to legend, Tamerlane’s real grave is hidden in a dungeon.
Impressions
The hospitality of the locals was a pleasant addition to the trip. The politeness and willingness to help created a special atmosphere. The return trip to Tashkent by bus completed this unforgettable journey, leaving the desire to return again.
