A bit of history: The Great Silk Road is a caravan road that connected East Asia with the Mediterranean in Antiquity and the Middle Ages. First of all, the route served to transport silk from China, which is where its name came from. In addition to silk, merchants transported spices, precious stones, ceramics and other goods. The Path has also become a channel of cultural exchange. Among the key stops on the route are the Uzbek cities of Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, Tashkent, Termez, Urgench and Ferghana.
