Uzbekistan is launching large—scale measures under the Umra Plus program, which aims to attract up to 100,000 tourists from Malaysia and Indonesia in the next two years.
What is already being done:
- Tour operators will be paid $100 for each tourist from Malaysia and Indonesia (by the end of the year).
- A team of guides, translators and group leaders who speak English, Malay and Indonesian is being formed.
- On January 15, the advertising campaigns “In the footsteps of Imam Bukhari” and “Spend Ramadan in Uzbekistan” will start in Malaysia and Indonesia. At the same time, an online sale of travel packages will be launched.
- 10 aircraft will be used for flights — flights from Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta to Jeddah via Samarkand and Bukhara will be organized.
- The embassies of Uzbekistan in Malaysia and Indonesia will be allocated 1 billion soums each.
In addition, it is planned to:
- to improve the tourism infrastructure in Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara regions;
- to improve the quality of services in the field of pilgrimage tourism by studying the Malaysian Muslim Friendly experience.
